1933 Hiking Map Palm Springs

Interestingly, this map shows the Gordon Trail and the Idyllwild trail (both now almost totally gone) but does not show the Skyline "trail."

Interesting. Did you just view the underlying html and then paste it in as an img?

The one drawback of course is that it can't be enlarged.

Very interesting

I like the map. It's the only map I've ever seen with the Gordon Trail listed on it and it's very interesting that it shows a trail crossing over from the Skyline and joining up with the Gordon and called the Idyllwild Trail. I have never heard of this from anyone and I thought I knew every nook and cranny out here. It's certainly worth a bit of exploration if I ever get a day off work.

I opened the PDF, captured the screen shot (Alt, Ctrl, PrtScn) then paste into photoshop, save as .jpg, upload to my picasa page.

That is a really great old map - thanks for posting it Jim. Does anyone know what condition the Gordon Trail is in?

When I was last on it (over ten years ago) it was not in good shape but one could follow it. (One could say the same thing about Skyline when I first starting doing it about 20 or so years ago).

When I get a day or so off (I'm taking vacation next month) I'd be happy to go out on a little excursion to it. One has to do a little X-country travel to get to the actual trail but it's still there.

Anyone up for an adventure?

Actually, this is Walt's map. He asked me to post it. It is very cool. :) You can see it in a little better detail but with a lot of ads if you follow the link, but the map that HvyDrt posted is pretty good.

This has come up in another thread, so I thought I'd "bump" it with a new post so that it's easier to find.

You might have to join the site in order to download it. Joining is free.
