Hi Terry! Welcome to the board. I think everybody has been trying to figure out when the trail will be clear enough of snow to do it again. The responses are fewer than normal because it's kind of been up in the air.

The heat will now become a limiting factor as well, so this is an odd spring for Skyline. I'm trying to squeeze in some trips, but I'll be out of town that weekend.

You still have a lot of time, so I'm guessing someone else will post between now and then. Is this your first time up Skyline?

I am waiting on a trip report from a group doing it this Saturday. If it sounds good (not too much snow), I am thinking of May 22 provided there in no heat wave. This would be just Skyline to the tram.
Another group is doing it that day.

Hi My wife and I are interested, we have been doing long day hikes 15-20 miles with elevation gains of up to 4K, we would like to go with someone who has been before. We usually take about 6.5 hrs for 15 miles, are we in the ball park to do this?

To the tram would be 8K -- and it would be in 11 miles (really steep). To the summit is about 10k gain. You might try doing something intermediate like San Gorgonio Mountain via the Vivian Creek Trail before you do an extreme hike like C2C.

i started from the museum 11am on saturday, heat was an issue at the lower elevations (below 4000 feet), but with enough nerve, i was able to make it to the tram station by around 5 pm. A nice afternoon hike on a beautiful day it was!

snow was not much of a factor even above 8000 feet. It was present in a few places, but the trail was visible on the other side of the patches, pink markers on bushes also indicated the path. This was especially true on the traverse.

However, i do believe the snow would be a major slowing factor past the tram, to the top of mount san jacinto that is. I'd imagine that crampons would be needed here.

Thanks for the info, sounds like it will be a real challange but the snow shouldn't be too much of a factor? (if only going to the tram). How late does the tram run? Our last hike was a 15 mile round trip up and back with 4K elevation in 7.5 miles so this is deffinatly a lot steeper. We made the climb in under 3 hrs. So I am hoping we are ready to try more! We have been part way up the trail earlier this year but just went up late in the eve. so didn't go too far. Maybe we will see some of you up there one weekend.

11am is a very late start. I usually start about 4:30 am.

So, the trail is clear and recoginizable all of the way up??


Anybody considering an ascent this Sat May 15th??????
