skyline x 2 questions

Postby Tijos1 » Sat May 08, 2010 1:45 pm

I have hike the C2C before and for this summer I am looking to hike up skyline twice in 24 hours. My question is at what time should I start? What I was thinking about is waiting until the end of September, hike up to the tram for the first tram ride down and then hiking back up starting at 10am and going to the tram my second time that day. Does anybody have any suggestions?

That'll work.

Another way to do it (since you're thinking about twice in 24 hours, not necessarily on the same calendar day) would be to go up in the afternoon of a Friday, say going up about 3:00, finishing before the last tram down. Take the last tram down, get dinner, a good night's sleep, then start again after an early breakfast. Start again by, say 6:00, and you still have 9:00 hours to complete your second attempt.

I hear this isn't recommended, that it's too hard and too dangerous. Where'd you come up with this crazy idea?

Fern and I rolled into the tram around 8:30 tonight ( after doing SNAKEcreek !) and were told two people got stranded and spent the night in the skyline traverse last night. No headlamps or flashlights or warm clothes or.....

the rattlers are out !! almost stepped on 2 of them, a 4' one and another the size of a pencil.

btw...september is warm, but i'm sure you've thought of that.

zip...I think that 2 in a row thing has been done before..hell, i think a few people have done it 3 times in a row, without having to sleep anywhere unfortunate. (what luck)

Bluerail,

About 12:30 I drove out to SC road on the way to work, and put the binocs on the chute. Didn't see you guys, course you may have been wolfing down bologni sandwiches about then. When you can, put your pics up. As my old barrio homies would say, you and Fern are da shit!

Tijos1,

I apologize for getting off topic. Like bluerail said, the end of September can be very hot. It usually doesn't start to really cool off until the second or third week of October. If you do decide to go for it, take a lot of water, and drink it. Those ridgelines can get very hot. If you go for it, Godspeed.
