Guess who pulls up? Ellen and Lance..SWEET! I have read plenty of her TR's on this board and have only the highest respect for her. I didn't know much about Lance, but I learned in my travels with him that he is too cool and makes it all seem so effortless..I was a little shy at first to approach..but I did in the loading area and it was great swapping stories and me learning more about skyline..one of my new favorite subjects
Onto the hike, I ended up bringing my crampons and ice axe, but they just took a ride with me for the day..Lance wore microspikes the whole time, Ellen wore them about half of the way there, but the snow was balling up on the bottom of her feet so she took them off and just ended up booting it up, same as me..boots the whole way..the snow was fresh, mushy and was perfect to make wet hard snowballs..I had never been up the Sid Davis, so this was a treat for me..They both traded off the lead and knew the route well..the whole route was manageable and the last part coming up the side of San Jacinto from the Miller Saddle was fun, steep postholing in brand new snow up to the top, not slipping at all..looks like we were the first ones on top of the peak all week..Once on the peak, we chilled for a bit, talked about the different peaks around the area we could see and made our way back to the tram..I am pretty sure the total trip including the break on top was somewhere around 5 hours..
It was great meeting both of you
We would of took a picture by the sign, but it was kinda impossible..ha
