Depends upon the fine, maybe? :o

If it was only $50 and they march you back to the tram the same way one was going to go anyways it might not be a big deal.

Driving out from OC a day before to either Idylwild or PS and taking the tram up to get a permit and finding a place to crash overnight would be pretty pricey were I do attempt such an epic.

I just called the State Park to confirm their rules.
They do not allow a mail in method for dayhiking permits.
(Overnight permits if requested by mail must be done 10 days ahead).

I also called the Forest Service. They DO allow a mail method, but you still need to mail it in far enough in advance for them to mail you back an approval. You need to write on the permit that it's for a day-hike, since this mail in method is normally used for overnight.

cjd - thanks for doing some of the legwork.

I have a few ?'s for everybody.
1 - Does/will the state issue day use permits in advance?
2 - Don't they recognize that going to Idylwild or Long Valley is very inconvenient for some of the TH's?
3 - Are both a USFS and state wilderness permit required for Snow Creek? Or does one cover both areas as happens in other areas?

1. I don't think so.
2. They did say you don't need a permit for Skyline Trail below Long Valley ranger station.
3. Each permit covers both areas.
For camping you need the appropriate one for where you camp, unless you have a PCT thru permit.

[quote="climberslacker"]Wow,

AS long as you werent violating any laws you should report them. You were on public land, and never entered their private property. Report them to someone?

My recommendation is if a person who does not identify himself and flashes a photo of me in the dark and makes threatening or harassing statements will suffer great physical damage and his camera would have been confiscated. If it was Dave Luker from DWA than he should be reported the the elected board of directors on his illegal behavior. Climbers are not the problem.
