Anyone want to take a group up the Cactus to Clouds?

Postby Elizabeth » Tue Apr 13, 2010 6:41 pm

Hi all,

I have a group of hikers gathered from my meetup group that want to tackle the cactus to clouds hike. I am not in good enough shape for this hike, but I don't want the group to miss out on the hike because of me.

The hikers that are interested are all in good shape.

Not a good idea

Seriously, this is NOT a good hike for a group. People may be good hikers but over the course of this hike with all the factors involved (elevation gain, heat, snakes, snow) even good hikers travel at different rates of speed and it's impossible to keep a group together. The hike is best done in small groups of people who know one another and are familiar with each others capability. Groups invariably get in trouble here.

I would hope that everyone here has enough sense not to take a group of people they do not know on this hike. It's asking for trouble.

There's still a lot of snow on the route and by the time the snow melts off it might be pretty warm in Palm Springs.

I should have been more clear. The "group" is currently 3. A couple more may want to join as well. I have seen your blog when checking on trails - it is a great source of information. Thanks!

Unless your hikers are equip with crampons and ice axe's and know how to use them i suggest you don't go up any time soon.
