Tram to San Jacinto Summit - Any need to bring snowshoes????

Postby KathyW » Fri Apr 09, 2010 2:40 pm

I'm heading up on the first tram tomorrow. Should I leave the snowshoes home like I want to? Has anyone been up there in the last week?

Thanks Steve.

I'll look down the chute and wave - 3X in a row up that route is pretty impressive. I'm going to go check out the top of the Skyline route while I'm up there too because I'm thinking of giving Skyline a try on the 18th.

Hi Kathy, I'm looking forward to hearing your report on the top of Skyline. I've been itching to get back out there...

I only looked down from the top - the snow on the top of the route was in good condition - nicely consolidated. That said, there's lots of snow on the route still.

Maybe one of the people who climbed Skyline today will be able to give you a better idea of conditions down lower on the route.

The snow from the tram to the summit was also nicely consolidated - it's a really easy hike right now from the tram to the summit because you just glide along on top of the snow - there's still tons of snow between Long Valley and the summit of San Jacinto.

Thnks Kathy! That's still too much snow for me. I think next season, I'll aim to get some snow experience but for now, I'll wait until Skyline is free of white stuff.
