snow since storm

Postby outdoorjunkie » Sat Apr 03, 2010 2:34 pm

Hi everyone! Just wondering if anybody has been up tram since the storm this last week. Im curious how much snow fell and what the conditions are like. Heading up the tram on the 10th (sat) and just wondering if I will need snowshoes and crampons/axe to make it to san j. summit. Im guessing snowshoes for sure...... Any info would be great, Thanks!

Howdy Outdoorjunkie :)

BTW -- great screen name 8)

I went up Miller, San J and Jean with Lance and Karl yesterday. Early in the day, the snow was consolidated (though very lumpy from other hikers in heavily traveled sections). Have not been on the trail to Round Valley, so don't know the conditions for that route. Wore microspikes up the Sid Davis drainage to the base of Miller Saddle, then strapped on crampons. We started heading down a bit before 1 PM and the snow had really softened up. I slid around a lot in the drainage on the way back.

There's a chance of snow tomorrow and Tuesday, though little accumulation of snow is expected.

Ellen

Elllen, thanks for the info! Looks like we are going to take crampons/axe and snowshoes with us just in case..... a little extra weight isn't so bad. Thanks again

Howdy ODJ :)

Forgot to mention that we did carry ice-axes but didn't climb anything steep enough to require them and did not glissade on the way down. You'll be all set by carrying crampons, snowshoes, and ice-axes.

A belated welcome to the board 8)
