Howdy Sam :)

Congratulations to you and the rest of the Magnificent Seven 8) I am so envious. Hope to hike with you sometime.

Another member of your group who wears distinctive headgear on summits  posted a trip report on the Whitney Portal board:

Amazing pics from all you crazy mountaineers...I'm impressed.

By the way, that was a cool slide presentation by, well, it seems like the names have been omitted for some reason (?) so I'll just say the person with the moose hat! The whole presentation was nicely done and the music was great!

We saw two park rangers sitting on San Jacinto today waiting for anyone who might have escaped the Sheriff down at the start of the Snow Creek Route. Even if people are trying to stay on public land down at the bottom, which probably isn't the case for many of the climbers going up, everyone has to have to have a permit to complete the route - that's what the ranger said. The rangers were going to nab the people climbers coming up the route for not having a permit.

It sounds like the various agencies are working together to keep people off the route. I'm sure they have internet access just like the rest up us and can read the Snow Creek trip reports and posts regarding upcoming climbs.

Kathy: Thanks for the info. Yikes. It is possible to avoid trespassing on Desert Water Agency property at the bottom. A wilderness permit is also required.
