Finding a mountain

Postby Bigwookie009 » Sat Mar 20, 2010 3:01 pm

Hey guys just wanna know if any of you could help me out, I am trying to find a mountain for tomorrow it would be nice to be in the Jacinto's. Basically I want something for a nice long hike tomorrow something taller would be nice but I do not have snow shoes crampons or a ice ax. With all this warm weather lately has some of the snow been going away maybe some of the ice? Let me know if you guys think anything would be good to do.

Thanks a bunch!

Hey guys I don't know if this would work or not but what do you think of Torro Peak? I know there is just a road that goes up to it and I think its mostly closed from snow but if I were to drive a bit and then just hike up the rest of the way do you guys think that is doable or is the snow going to be pretty deep? Just curious what you guys think?

Thanks

The Desert Divide is usually good for between seasons hiking. Pretty long too since you said you wanted a long hike!

Santiago Peak, or anything in the Santa Ana mountains is 100% snow free.

Not near San Jacinto, but what about Mount Wilson:

The Sierra Club's HPS list might give you some good ideas:

Villager Peak in Anza Borriego is my vote.

Too late but....

I'm too late to the game and am curious to know where you went but I would have suggested Sheep Mountain or Martinez. They are in the Santa Rosas and not the San Jacintos but would have been perfect choices for a nice long hike this weekend.

Actually your not too late I am going tomorrow now... things keep getting moved around I have a new job coming up and keep having these meetings randomly popping up on my schedule now lol.
Thank you all so much for all the suggestions I was not expecting that many responses! I think I'm going to save this page so I can come back and go and do the all the suggestions!
However for tomorrow I plan on going for Rabbit Mountain actually because it looks like it is going to be a real big challenge going 21 miles and 8400 feet of gain, I am going to get a real early start around 6:30 or so and hopefully all goes well!
