The back to back that i was talking about was skyline up, take tram down drive back to museum then turn .... I am going to ponder this for a moment and get back to you.
:)

What time of year could avoid the additional equipment? My goal is really scoring a single day 20,000'+ up and down... and this route just sounds interesting. I normally have to do a route that includes looping 6 or 7 times to score the needed elevation gains. Last year it was Guadalupe Peak in Texas six times... probably the easiest route available for scoring net elevation.
...out early, up and away. It does not get better.

Late spring is good, but autumn is better if you don't mind waiting. In October and November the air is cool, the trail is clear, and you don't need extra equipment.

If you're out this way, I'd encourage you to go ahead and take a few trips up to explore the trail now. You'll have to do it as an out and back, but that's simulating your goal trip anyway, right? Besides, the trail is exceptionally nice with the good rain year, there's actually grass and other greenery along the trail right now. If you're still in New Mexico, that would be kind of a long commute though.

I'll be out Mid April... meeting a friend from Tucson to do a single c2c sans tram May 1st... then, if all goes well, back out in the fall to try for a double...

Thanks!

Sounds like a good plan. You can even do a little recon on the trail for a couple of weeks if you like. If you're going up May 1st, I'm sure you'll run into some of us from the board on the way. I'll be in Palm Springs that weekend myself - my daughter is swimming in a tournament - so I'll probably run into you along the way. Hope you have fun, and I look forward to meeting you.

Yeah but that will work the hell out of your knees coming down. the best thing about skyline is you don't have to go down. coming down from c2c is a breeze. just my opinion.
