Skyline minus the snow

I was looking for a route that will go from the desert floor up and over the
mountain, just not so high up in elevation.

In the spring and fall I like to hike up Skyline, run across to Idyllwild and mountain bike down the other side, home to Hemet.

With the amount of snow this year, I may have to delay the trip later into the spring.

So I am looking for a route more to the south that would go up and over and run into Idyllwild or HWY 74 with a minimum of snow time.

Any ideas?

In my high school days we used to hike way way up Tahquitz Canyon,
--- not looking to do that --

Just looking to go up over and down with out post-holing.
