More snow this weekend than previously predicted

Looks like this storm found some moisture after all...

2-3 feet possible above 8000 feet.
I'm gonna head up the tram first thing sunday for some cautious powder skiing if anyone wants to come.

These storms always seem to have a little less than the prediction, but even with that, this is turning out to be a great year for snow for the local mountains. What's the base in Long Valley now, 3-4 feet of consolidated snow? This is going to last a while. Good thing I ordered up those crampons!

SD, post a TR if you will. Unfortunately, I don't have the expertise or $ to get into crosscountry skiing right now, but one day...

Ah yes, the one rather large downside to alpine touring ski gear... the $$$. At least it can be sort of an investment. Its way cheaper than resort skiing if you get out a lot. I think I'll bring the helmet cam again this weekend.

Lows will be in the 20's F at the tram which means there will be a fair amount of ice after it melts and refreezes.

Brent -
Are you going to post the video on FB? That sounds pretty cool. Do you have the GoPro or VholdR?

I have a VIO system that I'm going to sell... my new vholdr arrives today and sunday will be the first test of it in the field. I'll post the video on vimeo probably.

The VIO works very well and it has a nice screen to make sure you're getting results but its just too heavy (2lbs) for human powered backcountry use imho. The vholdr is 4oz., higher resolution (1080p), and doesn't have an external recorder pack. I just hope it mounts on my helmet properly.

Here's some VIO results from last season, forgive the bad editing, it was my first try. Next time I'll cut out way more waiting-for-partner time. Skip to 5:53 and 8:40 for the best action.

Cool vid Brent! You'll love the VholdR HD. I've researched both and I still can't decide on one. The main differences that I found were that the GoPro comes with a plastic waterproof case and has the ability to take stills by setting a time interval (ie: every 30 seconds, a minute...etc) which is a nice "hands free" feature. The VholdR is more sleek for a helmet mount and more durable with the metal casing. Picture quality is about the same. Can't wait to see your results!

One of the big factors for me in getting the vholdr was the testing and review on the SierraDescents.com blog.

Andy does a really good job in his gear reviews and trip reports.

Yes sir, I know the site and have it on my favorites already!
Thanks!!

Kurt Wedberg posted a VholdR video of a MR climb on the Whitney board a couple of months ago, it was amazing...

FYI - GoPro and VholdR have pages on Facebook and they post cool videos almost daily.
