Brent
I'm in over my head with my boots alone...LOL (Lowa Mountain Experts).
I called Hermits last night, they are out of stock and on backorder until March. The G10's do come in new matic, but the whole US is sold out according to the guy at Hermits.
I just found out that REI S.A. has the new matic G12's in stock...gonna check them out. They are a little on the agro side, I know.
If I'm lucky, I might be able to achieve 50% of their potential by the time I die!!! Better to be prepared, I guess?!?!?

Stacy, definitely check out the sabretooths over the G12s... the sabretooths are a much newer design, more versatile, cheaper, lighter, and easier to find. The front points are flatter and better for climbing snow vs. ice.

I know the pic on that page shows the old ones... they are really selling the new stainless steel models.

REI probably has them in stock too so you can find out if they fit your boots perfectly... always the top factor.

Thanks for the info Brent...I Really appreciate it! We're headed to REI now! I'll check out the BD's for sure. I don't know why I'm so enamoured with the Grivels...guess they just look cool!!! LoL Thanks again.

The redesign of the Black Diamond Sabretooth looks like an improvement over the old model. I had the old ones and they were just way too wide and heavy. I sold them and bought a pair of the Petzl Charlet Vasak Leverlock Crampons, which have turned out to work great for me.

Well, REI was out of all but one pair of BD classics, so I bought the G12's since they had a pair.
Unfortunately now I've come to realize that my Mtn Experts are a tad too small, so the search continues! Maybe the beautiful RED men's version will work...
Thanks for the input everyone!

Unless you plan on climbing ice the Sabertooths are overkill. You don't really even need a 12 point crampon unless you are planning on climbing very steep snow. The Petzl Irvis, BD Contacts or Grivel G10 are good choices for most snow climbs.

Great TR, Ellen! Sounds like it was another great day on Jacinto.

Hi Mike!
Well, the great thing about REI is that you CAN return them...and I might. There are SOOO many opinions out there and so much read and compare. I should just listen to the experienced...like yourself and the people on this board.
I guess I'm just a little geeked up to get out there and do this stuff.

Thanks for all of your input, it is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for clogging up your thread Ellen...
