Old Plane Wreck Site

Postby msugarpants » Mon Feb 01, 2010 12:44 am

Hey - Anyone know information on a place crash, possibly 50 years old or less, in the Santa Rosa wilderness? I came across the wreckage south of the Boo Hoff trail. May be traveling there again Saturday and beyond to a nice looking valley with flowing water. I would love to get some info on this plane crash.

Happy Trails

This site is very helpful and if you cannot find it there, send a message to it's owner, he's super nice in answering.

No, but I heard about a creepy hidden airport near Sagebrush Flats - anyone heard of this? :?:

It does exist and "creepy" is a good choice of word for it. Ask some of the RMRU guys. This recent rescue occurred near there and all were quite eager to vacate the locale ASAP.

BLM has nothing....

Chris from the BLM had this to say..

I am not familiar with this particular crash site, though crash sites are relatively common in the field office area. We anticipate that at least some of the crashes occurred at a time in Ca history when the US transported by airplane migrant workers back to Mexico in the 1950s and 1960s. We also anticipate crash sites to be the result of the illegal smuggling operations from Mexico. It is for this reason that we rarely find documentation regarding the crash sites.

Hit me up if you want to check it out. There is a valley tucked away where a few canyons merge just below I was hoping to explore sometime too. Looks beautiful and there was running water through there at the time of this original post.

Ha ha, thats pretty funny. Thats Zac's father. Yeah, that Santa Rosa trip was incredible. I hope to do a variation of it again soon. Mike is a good guy and was kind enough to pick us up after that trip. I have done some hiking with him, too. How did you run into him?
