Climb and ski NW flank of Folly peak?

Postby backcountrybrad » Wed Jan 27, 2010 8:49 pm

Howdy all,
I'm wondering if anybody that has hiked the snow creek section of the PCT or knows much about this area could give me some feedback about the feasibility of a possible route.
I'd like to climb and ski the NW flank of Folly peak from Snow Creek. My maps say that the PCT actually comes within 1/2 mile or so of the East branch of Snow Creek drainage at the 3700 ft. mark. Would it be possible to access the Folly drainage from the PCT.

Below the green is an approximation of the PCT and the red would be the off trail portion of the route I'd like to do. You can also view the interactive map here http://scribblemaps.com/#id=BzI2Fj1WTf.

What do you guys think?

It appears from your map that you are referring to the West Fork of Snow Creek. That was climbed from the bottom in the 70's by a strong party of three, two Alaskan climbers and one former RMRU member. The climb took three days and involved a considerable amount of technical rock and ice climbing.

I recently explored the approach to the NW side of Folly Peak. Here is my trip report.
