Devil's Slide Trail?

Postby Halohiker » Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:50 pm

My boyfriend and I are thinking about hiking Humber Park to San J Peak this Saturday. Has anyone been up that trail lately? Would we want snowshoes? Or is it clear? Or...icy?

Thanks!

Stood alone on a mountain top, starin' out at the great divide. I could go east, I could go west. It was all up to me to decide.

Liz, you might want the crampons around the peak...at least microspikes. You wont need snowshoes

Hi Liz

I am going up from Humber Park tomorrow. I wasn't planning on aiming for the San J peak. I am trying for Tahquitz Peak. But if the trail is looking good at Saddle Junction, who knows where my feet will take me! Will be trying out the microspikes Santa brought me.

I'll let you know tomorrow PM how it went.

Liz, I went up the first 4 1/2 or 5 miles today and it was a piece of cake with microspikes. I don't know how the going is the rest of the way to the Peak. See my TR on Tahquitz Peak for details.

Liz,
It's been a week since I was on the peak, so maybe conditions have changed. At least last Saturday when we went to the peak, it was slushy and icy. Nobody used snowshoes. We used microspikes to start and most of us switched to crampons to go up the summit. We all had axes. Ellen and I are going to go up to the peak again on Saturday and I'm definitely bringing crampons and an axe.
