Sheep Canyon, Santa Rosa Mountains

Postby halhiker » Thu Dec 17, 2009 8:02 pm

I went on a little hike in Sheep Canyon down near Rabbit Peak the other day. I discovered a couple of Indian Trails and a campsite. Also, there was a rock with at least a dozen bedrock mortars on it. There's water there as well. Great area that offers lots of potential for exploring.

Here's the trip report:

I've done Rabbit twice but have never done Rosa or Villager.

Hal, the area with the mortars looked real interesting. Seeing as how it's now one of your new favorite places, I'm sure you'll be going more..please call or text when your looking for company, I'd really like to go.

You got it. Alamo Canyon and Barton Canyon, south of there, are also on my list. I think there was once a village in Alamo. There may also have been some mining. Interesting area and I don't know anyone who knows much about it.
