Skiing this weekend?

Postby climberslacker » Sun Dec 13, 2009 3:03 pm

Hey guys,

Me and my buddy are thinking about staying in round valley and then hiking out to go skiing? Will there be enough snow up there to not ruin our skis? About how much is there?

Thanks!

You have to choose your slope carefully... some are filled in and some are not. Here's one of GigaMike's photos from yesterday:

Looks like the east face is almost open for business, maybe open now for the brave. Bring your rock skis. I skied some decent powder in the trees on saturday, but had to skim some pretty woody manzanita in the clearings.

Ok, also if you snowshoe to the summit, could you ski/snowboard down to, or mostly down to round valley?

Yes, that can be done but the slope wants to pull you downhill missing round valley to the north. I usually miss round valley completely and ski through the tamarack area ending up at the wodden sign about .5-.75 miles from the ranger station before I have to walk or pole. You might be better off camping in the tamarack area.
