Snow Creek to tram -- who's on?

General Palm Springs area.

I can't do the hike on the 21st, but I'd love to do this sometime with a not-so-fast group and when the days are longer.

I was hoping to hike with Walt but he and Jean have other obligations on Nov 21.

I cannot keep up with Z, Tina, Steve, etc. Are any normal human beings  interested in hiking Snow Creek to the tram with me?

Ellen

WHAT...walt and jean are not going ???? what is more important than hiking with us?

Our Family Gathering. Getting to see all the new little ones, grumpy old ones and the perfect aged ones who should be in show business!!! Eating BBQ, red rice, finadine, chicken kilaguen, lumpia, funeral potato salad, sweet rolls and homemade pie. Drinking beer in the morning, wine with lunch, bourbon in the afternoon and single malt Scotch all night long. Laughing at old stories, disbelieving the new stories and talking about anyone who didn't show up. We also spend special time remembering those of our family who have passed on. We tell their stories to ensure we're all there together again.

You crazies fools be careful.

I tend to like to do these things solo because I don't like to hold anyone back but if anyone wants to go on the 17 I'm amiable to it. I'm starting at 5 because I want to finish before dark.

Hi Ellen. Equalizing pace seems to be the biggest challenge for organizing groups like this. I hate to see Cy get bumped, and I don't like the thought of you having to hike alone for long portions of it. The more going, the easier to match up pace. Is Karin back in action yet? It'd be great to see her again! How about Maria? Maybe if Cy wanted to hike up to Black Mountain Truck Road, then you could do your afterburner thing on the last 8 uphill miles and he could catch a ride down with anyone from our group who drove up with water and food? There are a million solutions to each problem - we survived the impossible Skyline Multiple Assault logistical problems (thanks especially to Tina's orchestrating the shuttles), so this is pretty similar.

Cy, does that interest you at all?

Anyone willing to drive up with supplies?

Anyone got better ideas? I'd love to see everyone have a chance to suffer!

Snow Creek to Tram

Postby Cy Kaicener » Thu Nov 12, 2009 3:33 am

Zip - Thanks for coming up with a solution. I have never been on that "trail" so I would need the company of a slow person who knows the way. Easier said than done. I would have to think on it and find out more.
Maria has just had foot surgery and will be out of action for a while.
This is enough of a challenge for you without having to worry about arranging a support group for stragglers. How many slow people are interested in this venture.? What is the mileage to Black Mountain Truck Road.? How bad is the bush whacking?
I dont mind a little suffering as long as it doesnt effect my back? :)

Hi Cy. The bushwhacking is minimal - they just stick out from the sides of the trail. With long pants, you walk right by like it's nothing. It's about 17 miles up to the truck trail. It's a smooth trail with easy incline, so while it's longer, it's kind of a stroll for many parts, and you might take breaks to enjoy the scenery, but you won't need breaks like on Skyline to catch your breath. It's just not that steep.

If anyone knows hikers of slower pace, or if there are people already considering going who don't mind a slower pace, maybe they'll end up going and the event will be accessible to all.

Howdy Norma :)

Excellent 8) I'm looking forward to Hal's trip report when he does the hike next Tuesday. I suspect we will want to start several hours before dawn to finish before dark.

Love your signature -- reminds me of the scene from "Young Frankenstein" when Igor grabs the wrong brain

Howdy Lilbitmo :)

Would love to have your company -- after this hike, you may need to change your screen name to "Lotsmo"

Howdy Walt :)

Family first -- sounds like a fabulous day 8)

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Count me in for a "hike with Ellen" excursion...

Ellen, I've run out of sunscreen. After seeing that photo I assume you have plenty available? :)
