I apologize for not stopping at Flat Rock  -- I was afraid that I wouldn't make the first tram down.

I really enjoyed your company on the trail and look forward to hiking with you again soon.

Routes 2 and 3 both look good. #3 might be in the Salton Sea area

It's Route 2 that I'm planning on doing. I'm just trying to figure out if I want to do it as a day hike or carry enough stuff to allow for an overnight bivy. If I do it overnight, I might go cache water along the route in advance.

Hi Kathy, shoot me a PM when you get ready to do this; if you're looking for company I might join you. I hiked Rabbit/Villager from S22 and actually enjoyed it. I remember meeting Mars Bonfire on Villager. He told me he had left a super bright strobe light sitting on the dashboard of his truck back at the trailhead. It was very effective as a navigational aid for the return trip in the dark, but it looked so very far away that for a time I couldn't bear to look at it.

P.S.-Sorry for the thread drift.

Dave: I will drop you an email when I get ready to do it. I'm thinking sometime in December, but the days are so darn short in December that I almost need to plan on an overnight bivy. It seems to be comparable distance and elevation to Big Iron in the San Gabriels, but the route will be rough x-country. I can do Big Iron in 10 hours round-trip (6 up and 4 down), but I think this route on Rabbit would take at least 8 hours up and 6 down. With not much more than 10 hours of daylight in December, it might be nice to bivy on the summit of Rabbit overnight instead of struggling down the mountain in the dark. I will probably scout out the first part of the route and leave a water cache ahead of time about halfway up.
