BACK TO BACK

General Palm Springs area.

My original plan for the 3rd trip was to start hiking up the trail between 3 and 3:30pm and reach the tram before 9:45pm. If I didn't make it I figured it'd be no big deal just to hike back down in which case I'd still succeed in 3 times up Skyline in a day. That's still the plan but I'll see how it goes.

I agree. I've noticed that in recent months everyone has been working towards faster and faster times. This tells me that the challenge has moved from completing it to setting PR's, so the basic pace a person might take on a first trip would no longer feel challenging.

I'm planning on almost doubling my normal time for the first two. If I feel bad or something hurts, it's easy to call it at that point. If I still feel fresh due to the reduced pace, the the third one might still be a challenge, but I don't think it will be overwhelming.

While I appreciate all the well-meaning warning posts, I still think that most people who try the trail are not on this board. They probably visit Perry's C2C site, but he has good advice and ample warnings there. Incidentally, I think the trail sweep is a great idea. There's no official sign in, so it won't be totally effective, but we can certainly make sure no one who is known to be on the trail gets left behind.

This sounds like a great hike (love the name "Mad Women Spring" -- bet there's a story there). Give me a few weeks to recover from the Terrible Two and I'll be ready. I'm self-employed, so can go during the week as well as weekends. It sounds like other people from the board are interested in going as well.

Monday is my best day to go. I usually have kid duty but can for a special reason get someone to watch over the little ones for a while.

I used to always think the name was Mad Woman Springs but was told that Wellman named it Mad Women (plural) because two ladies who went to the old cabin there could not get along. It's a very interesting, little visited area and I suspect there are trails that lead out from there to Cedar Spring but haven't fully investigated because you have to be out of the Indian Canyons by 5. One day I hope to go overnight and do some real exploring. Maybe next spring.

Anyone else interested in going during the week is welcome.

Anyone doing two Skylines is going to feel like a fish out of water unless they have done two Skylines in two days with a couple of well known exceptions :)

Everyone: We need to perform a group intervention Nemo style on Ellen this weekend. "Fish are our friends, not our food!" She seems to be having way too much seafood lately, and it's showing in her posts. This woman needs help.
