...oh boy here goes rat in the water talk again

Years, no, decades ago I heard someone saw a rate in the spring source box for Round Valley. Apparently others have seen/heard similar in more recent years.

Several other springs I've heard the same thing. I would suspect that ANY standing water where the sides are steep probably has some kind of dead critter in it. Someone will probably bottle that water and sell it for big bucks as "protein water."

According to an ancient Indian legend, Qawil, the rat, dug deep down into the earth to the very source of the mountain's heart and gave his life in order that the water coming from the pipe in Round Valley would provide nutrition and supernatural powers to all who consumed it without faintness of heart or fear.

OK, I'll bite...what is the rat in the water story? For the record, I have been drinking the water at Round Valley (and a few places elsewhere on the mountain) with no treatment for 25 years with no ill effects). But I'm curious about this story...

I drink the water from the pipe in unfiltered form. But Jean can tell you that in times of need I also have no problem drinking water from relatively clear rainwater gathering points on the ground. Running water as clear as what we see on the local mountains is good to go for me. When pulling water from Willow Creek I will leave the cap on and submerge the bottle. I have a sterilizing pen and have used it enough to be good with it but don't see much need locally.

No rat stories to be repeated by me.
