springs and water between the Trading Post and hwy 74

Postby bryankeith » Sun Nov 01, 2009 7:18 am

Leaving in about 10 days, I'm planning a 4-night backpack trip from Martinez Canyon to the Trading Post via Cactus Spring, Omstott, and Palm Canyon.

Does anyone if there's been water recently in Agua Bonita Spring or Mesquite Flats Spring or anywhere else between Pinyon Flat and the very bottom of Palm Canyon?

I know I can get water at Pinyon Flat and at the Trading Post. I'd be great to know of one other source between these two. We'll be hiking this section downhill so it wouldn't be unreasonable to go the whole distance without additional water if necessary.

Thank you for any help.

I'll see if I can get up there check it out. Springs are generally dependable in Palm Canyon but it has been dry this year. In upper Palm Canyon, when I was there a week ago, there was NO water but I didn't get down to any of the springs. The springs near the TP were all going strong yesterday.

I'm not sure who Mr. French is. Nor do I understand what FWD has to do with this.

Anyone have information regarding water at Mesquite Flat or near Palm Canyon and Potrero Canyon or at Agua Bonita Spring?

Mr. French was the butler on the TV show "Family Affair" starring Brian Keith.

FWD = AWD = 4X4 – per your other post.

Oops, my bad. Slightly obscure, but I should have picked up on it.

Not so obscure for those of us old enough to remember, 'Family Affair'...
I thought it genius, bluerail.

Hi,
I was at the Tradin Post Friday & was suprised to find water running in Palm Cyn.
Don't know how far up stream it is, but it would have to be a ways I'm thinking, unless one of the warm springs (1/4 mi up from TD), started flowing heavily.
My guess is Garnet Ridge got rain a week or 2 ago when we had big clouds & wind, so I'd believe it's at least several miles up.

Sounds like an epic hike.
