C2C This Weekend - April 14th

General Palm Springs area.

I have found hitching a ride from some tourists back to the Museum often works, but here is my vitally important tip: STAND DOWNWIND WHEN YOU ASK.

By the time you get in their car, it will be too late for them to throw you out.

route

Postby guest » Fri Apr 13, 2007 3:13 pm

I find smokin crack all the way up eliminates the need for all the other stuff mentioned earlier!!
Plus people move out of the way fast when they see the crazed look in your eyes!
Crazydude!

All kiddin aside, the main area of concern on the trail is what we call the traverse, it's in the trees above 7k ft. & goes from south to north (approx.).

Just pay attention in the rocky drainages, there are a few ducks (cairns), but generally you'll go up a little, but mainly to the right (north).

The trail is visable, just look for it, (in between all the heavy breathing).

The trail is not recongized by the agencies, and many of us that have been hiking it for many years, perfer to keep it this way.
It's my belief that if too many want to turn it into a freeway, post GPS coordinates all over the web, trouble will follow.
Hike with someone who knows the route if possible the 1st time.

Yes some people get lost, but so do many on more marked trails.

Enjoy, you may see me going by solo before 10.

It looks like there are two groups of 3-4 and another 3-4 solos. I'll be making the hike solo tomorrow but will make a decision at the tram about going on. Winds look to be up again tomorrow afternoon.

Anyone planning on the summit?

Awesome hike!

Our group from AZ all had a blast today! 2 of them made it to the summit, the rest of us all stopped at the tram and enjoyed a few drinks! Awesome day out, slightly overcast, a little bit of wind, perfect temperature.

We ran into Kellie's group at the picnic tables, but didn't see them again the rest of the day.

Now that I know what to expect I'm planning for a "Re-match" already. I would love to do a full moon night hike up there as well, just have to work out the dates.

Thanks for all the info on here, we had no problems on the trip. Even managed to hitch a ride back to the Museum and saved the cab fare!

Kellie I'm so glad you had a good time. I'd like to trek that trail soon if it isn't baking. Agreed, this looks like a great site and I'm enjoying all the great info. :)
