Thanks for your support Jim. This looks like it is going to be the grandest get together of Skyline Addicts not so Annonymous to date, and we have had some good ones already. :) -- A celebration of hiking fools gone wild 8)

RMRU donations

Postby Ellen » Fri Sep 11, 2009 5:46 pm

Howdy All :)

Regarding donations to RMRU -- I recommend mailing a check (or leaving cash or check with Jim Bakos at breakfast) rather than using PayPal, since PayPal takes a "cut."

Howdy Chef Jim :)

Regarding menu suggestions -- coffee and cinnamon rolls sound great.

Speaking of coffee...On my John Muir Trail trip, I was the coffee maven. At night, I made drip coffee (Peets' Major Dickason's blend). In the morning, I'd heat it up at the crap of dawn and carry mugs of hot coffee to my friends in their tents. I have better cold tolerance than most people

I'm willing to carry up a loaf of sliced home-made, whole wheat molasses bread in honor of this event. My bread goes really well with peanut butter and/or fruit jam.

As Jim Bakos is already serving as our Skyline Sherpa, would someone be willing to carry up a jar of peanut butter and/or jam?

Howdy Z-dude, Rick K, and Ze,

They're coming to take you away, ha, ha. they're coming to take you away, ha, ha, to the funny farm, where life is beautiful all day long, those nice young men in their clean white coats..."

Howdy Cy,

Looking forward to seeing you again! I finally had the pleasure of meeting and hiking down San Jacinto with Doreen last Saturday. You're both amazing.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Zip - My back is feeling much better thanks. I hiked Mt Baldy from Manker Flats on Labor Day and felt great. The only people that the Forest Service allowed on the trail were the runners and their support group. All other cars were turned back. This area will be closed to hikers for at least another week.
Ellen - I think you are the amazing one.

I would like to hear more about the crazy get together party with the hiking fools before I commit too much time on scheduling start times. Where is the celebration and when? Once that is determined I'll be better prepared to decide on everything else since there is no way I will be able to hike past the party if I know its over before I return. This turtle can go a long way but it takes time!

When and where is the party?

Howdy Walt :)

Mark and I were just discussing start times on our hike yesterday 8)
He mentioned a start time of around 1:30 AM. A 6:30 or so Skyline, then take the tram down, and start the second Skyline around 9 AM.

I think this sounds very reasonable for doing two Skylines based on my anticipated pace. I believe that my second Skyline would take at least 7 hours.

If it is warm on November 7, I'll start later that morning and do one Skyline.

It would be nice to have a "base camp" where we could regroup throughout the day. I'm happy to donate home-made bread, chocolate chip peanut butter cookies, and celebratory beverages. I don't want to miss a post-Skyline party either 8) Think of the fabulous calorie deficit

Rick Kent wrote:Hey Ze, like you I'm more interested in trying to get 3 within the same calendar day. I dunno, I guess the thought of that last tram departing at 9:45pm will be more than a little motivating. Just imagine using up every last bit of life in your body, crawling up the cement walkway on all fours, only to see the last tram leaving the station. Oh yeah, that would suck big time.

Actually the decision to go for it might not be that difficult. If we aren't ready to go by about 3:30pm then it is unlikely we'd make it up in time. So if it's 5pm then there's clearly no point in attempting a 3rd unless we just want the sublime pleasure of hiking back down after racking up 36 miles and 24000 feet of gain.

You know you want to Ze!

if you guys pull that off i will be waiting to take you where ever you want, i will celebrate with you regardless of what time you make it back.

Jim- are you serious on the flat rock breakfast? can i request extra frosting on my cin. roll? i don't care what the article says, sugar helps me, if i get crazy so be it, i am crazy just to be doing this shit....lol

As i mentioned my parents will be carpooling people throughout the day from the station to the museum.

Ze- i will check it out, i haven't really been online for the past week so i am slowly getting back on track.

I found a link of someone who climbed Shasta six times in just under 24 hours. The total elevation gain was 37,572 feet. He skied down.
