Traversing the Santa Rosas

I'm just wondering if it is possible to do the whole length in a single day. That is, to hike from highway to highway, traversing over the entire santa rosa range. Rabbit to Toro.

What do you think?

Perfect for your occupation and interest. That would be a long and very painful day. You would have to be extremely fast and really good off trail with a good route laid out.

Have you checked the mileage ?

Don't know if it's possible in one day. I know people who've done it in two. Jerry Schad, the guidebook author, said on his scale of one to five it rates a six.

The problem is there's no water, it's brushy and rocky. It would also be very hot to do now and by the time it cools down the days are shorter.

While possible, it's probably better to plan on two.

I have heard that the brush is horrendous. The view from Rabbit supports that theory in my opinion.

This sounds like a fun trek! Keep me posted...but I highly doubt it can be done in a day. although, i am not sure of the milage, a few of us just spent 4 days around the Alta seca bench and tried to get over to Ebbens springs. We thought we made it...then plotted the points on Google earth and realized we did not. It takes a looong time to travel through the brush (but i dont know how bad it is along the ridges). We had a machete which made a huge difference (Gerber bushwacker or brush thinner....something like that). Good trip, though. good luck.
