new skyline access sign

Postby lightgy » Thu Aug 06, 2009 10:23 pm

I just got back from an evening stroll along the north lykken trail and noticed a new sign at the museum access, dedicated to johnny hollinger of the Palm Springs Mounted Police signifying the start of the Skyline Trail. It was dark and I didn't have my camera. It is an attractive "Artsy"sign, unlike most existing warning signs on the trail, that is approximately 3' x 5'.
When did this go up? It seemed odd considering the tendency of most the agencies in the desert to deny the existence of the trail.

thanks, bluerail. I generally access the trail either off Vista Chino or Ramon Road. I guess it's been awhile since I used the Museum access.

I am guessing but I would imagine that John Hollinger is the father of Andy Hollinger who quietly has hiked the trail a 100 plus times. Anyone graduating PSHS in the last 20 years probably knows the name. I haven't seen him on the trail in over a year though.

The sign is dedicated to the founder of the PSMP. I found this reference to a John Hollinger http://www.pspd.com/search_rescue.html
