BACK TO BACK

Postby tinaballina » Tue Aug 04, 2009 2:36 pm

After all the controversy regarding skyline trips this past year I hesitated to post this at first but this board is active with enthusiasts that share the same passion for the trail. After much consideration I have come to the conclusion that in order to do skyline back to back successfully we must push the date from October to November. I was thinking November 7th This date will come sooner than later so nothing like planning early.
Here is the weather history for Palm Springs:
November 7, 2008
Actual: Average : Record :
Temperature:
Mean Temperature 75 °F 67 °F
Max Temperature 84 °F 81 °F 100 °F (1991)
Min Temperature 65 °F 52 °F 34 °F (1951)

November 7, 2007
Actual: Average : Record :
Temperature:
Mean Temperature 75 °F 67 °F
Max Temperature 91 °F 81 °F 100 °F (1991)
Min Temperature 58 °F 52 °F 34 °F (1951)

what are your thoughts?

I won't be doing it, but here's a little outside input (did I just write that? ):

How about looking at the temps at the PS Tramway/Long Valley for that same date? Especially the low temps on November 7. It'll can be quite chilly at Long Valley on November mornings. You should be able to get this information off of the PS Tramway's website (they did have 5 years of it on there).

Compare you're original October date's temperatures with the November 7 temperature data and see if any appreciable difference.
3 of the 5 voices in my head are telling me to "Go for it!"

Tina - I think Tina Skylina might be a suitable avatar for you :)
The Sierra Club is also doing Skyline in November but probably later than you are.

LOL Cy...i spoke to Doreen, that may be around the same time that you both do your 250th trip. That would be great if that were the case, it would be a festive time on skyline that day for sure.

phydeux-good idea, when i have a chance later today i will look into that.
i figure whatever the temp is in long valley will be okay, it not until you reach the notch that you actually feel the major temp. change. we will actually short cut up the rocks and come up the back side of the tram so the cool temp. shouldn't affect us much.

Somehow I missed your post Tina. I like the temps you have posted, and I agree with Ze, cooler is better. I'm putting the 7th on my calendar at home tonight. I may have a 5k on the 8th (a friend helps organize it)...I wonder if this will affect my time? Perfect chance to compare to last year. Anyway, I'm in, sounds perfect.

Howdy Tina :)

Call me crazy, but I'll give it a shot as well. Based on who else has signed up, I should start at midnight

What do you mean by back to back? You will do it the 7th and then again on the 8th?

After my failed attempt at a C2C last year I have been waiting for the right time to do this again.
