The search is on for a missing hiker above the Ramon Road trailhead. This sounds like another Skyline trail hike. The temperature in Palm Springs at 1.30 am is 98 degrees :shock:

The TV news last night said they left at 3am and one guy turned back with cramps. The others got back at 8pm and discovered the guy hadn't returned, so it sounds like a c2c. Let's pray that this has a good ending....

North Lykken Trail, the other route up to the picnic tables. He's still missing which can't be good, it's damn hot here today:

man! this don't look good. there's too many things going wrong on Skyline. they close down vivian creek because of a little bear. I bet they do the same if something bad happened to this guy.

The article linked by Marknhj has been updated and a body had been found by the air crews. It is believed to be that of the missing hiker.

I wonder what drove this group to attempt this hike on one of the hottest days of the year? It just seems like pure insanity, unless they did it on purpose because they have training in this type of thing (like the Badwater runners or something). It's also sad that the group split up and the guy with medical problems went back down on his own, only to then die. But then we don't know the exact circumstances. Maybe they were all extremely experienced and he insisted he would be fine going back down on his own and then something else happened. Either way, what a horrible story.
