Mountain lion on Skyline

Postby Ellen » Wed Jun 17, 2009 12:49 pm

Howdy All :)

Last Saturday on Skyline we ran into three guys coming down at around the 1500 ft level at 4:40 AM. They were above Shade Rock and saw a mountain lion tracking their movements. They suspected that the lion was female and protecting a den with cubs nearby.

We put Kathryn (the most delectable member of our group) in the middle and continued on without incident. If Mark had been with, we would have had him lead. (Refer to Steve's picture of why he likes hiking with Mark). By the time we reached Shade Rock, the sun was rising and we saw no trace of a lion.

Lance sent me this picture of a lion spottted on Skyline:

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Have fun and please be careful out there.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Thats hilarious. I wonder if he gets chased by the other dogs ?

Jeez...kinda makes me wish our big dog had long hair.

He looks completely humiliated.

Poor thing? If I were a dog, looking like the apex predator would be my goal! Of course, switching from canine to feline is rather a desperate move, but hey, there's a price to everything!

Tina - hope you have fun out there, but watch out for lions and rattlers and beers, oh my! To be safe, maybe you should take an orangutan with you...

Ellen - I'm afraid you've got it wrong. If you want to be safe, you're supposed to put Kathryn out in the lead...

Kathryn - Sorry! That was horrible! Of course, what I really meant is that you could fill the hungry kitty with bacon, thus keeping the whole party safe...

I rode the tram today and joined Tina and Michael at the top of the Skyline. We hiked to the peak together and back at the tramway bar met up with Bluerail and Walt. There were hordes of people on the mtn today. Kind of unnerving actually. I have a few pictures here...
