Hey bluerail: Snow Creek PCT to Peak to Tram?

bluerail: Enough of that easy Skyline stuff! (jk) 50k, steady uphill, no bailout points... What do you think of next Saturday, say 3:00 a.m.? Maybe 2:00 a.m.?

Weather looks good, may be our last chance til fall! Added benefit: We can tell monstrous lies (eg. "We fought two mountain lions at Castle Rock. I didn't want an unfair advantage, so I only used my left hand. Bluerail used both hands, but he kept his eyes closed the whole time to make it fair!") at the get-together, and no one can prove we're lying! Sweet.

? Que piensas? (Have Kathryn turn over the first question mark and translate that for you.)

Are you walking or running ?

Kathryns asleep but I don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

If your walking, I'm in. I hope Tina doesn't get real pissed off here, I was going to do Ze s hike with her but sj gets hot when sb stays cool longer. I agree that the weather should still be decent this weekend.
if your running, I'm going with the girl.

I don't think the temperature will be going down, as in making a descent, but I think it should be good or at least decent for you guys.

I do know a weatherman, just in case you change your mind about knowing which way the wind blows. I hear that's where the answers are. 8)

I'm thinking a mix of running and hiking. The PCT would get boring if you walked the whole thing - it's very gently graded, taking 26 miles to do what you do on C2C in about 14 or 15. I know you do some running, so I think we could find a good mix.

Still, the 9 peaks is fun too. The biggest difference is that San J is getting too hot and maybe getting shut down, so it may not be available for a while. Makes me kinda want to get out there one last time.

Incidentally, what route are they doing for 9 peaks? Starting at Angelus Oaks? Vivian? Fish Creek? Are they going east or west?

The reason I ask is that I only did a short run this weekend, so if I don't want to start putting on weight, I need a long one next weekend.

The PCT from Snow Creek would be good, but I wouldn't mind doing 9 peaks as well. 9 peaks is a bit short, and easier than you might guess, but I (or we) could start early at one end, say Angelus Oaks, go up and across the ridge, and meet them on top of San Gorgonio, then come back with them as they hit each of the peaks. That's about 36 miles, but the last half would be with a group, so it would be a bit slower.

So, now that I've talked your ear off (or is it typed your eyes out?...ew...maybe not, that sounds grisly), what say you?

Sweet!

Um, but we're going to suffer.

Be sure to bring some light sweat pants and a long sleeve shirt. I've cleared the trail up to 7 miles, but it's growing back, and after 7 miles, unless a trail crew has been out there in the last couple of months, the trail is largely overgrown until mile 9 or 10 and will scratch the heck out of us.

Did I mention we're going to suffer?

Also, I imagine my old caches from two years ago are still there, but I don't know if we'll be able to find them. Unless you have a chance to drive out Black Mountain Road between now and then to cache some water/gatorade at the Fuller Ridge Trailhead, we'll have to carry a little extra to get us through to the first streams.

Oh, by the way, we're going to suffer.

How about 2:30 at the Blair Witch sign in front of Snow Creek?

I like it steep uphill. I'm still debating, but we got a permit for 12 on Vivian creek (right Tina?), so I'm thinking of taking a special x-country route up, part of which will gain a nice 4000 ft in 3 miles  .

From Dobbs there will be few options. Likely will be to head over to San Gorgonio. If I feel like it (and one or two others) may add 2 more peaks, then head back to Jepson...and then over the ridge. Was planning on descending Momyer trail, but I dunno I guess Angeles Oaks would work too. I have no idea I'm a noob.

Hi Zé!

I think you've got a great idea there, and it's fun to do some xc along the way. I mentioned Angelus Oaks because Momyer gets overgrown, hot and snakey, and I hate snakes. A lot. It sure is conveniently close to Vivian though.

Incidentally, when I've done the lollipop loop, I always look down at the tarn and want to go down there and explore it. Do you go through it on the way to Dragon's Head? I haven't been over on that edge before - sure looks interesting.

Hope you guys have some fun. We'll have to hit the trail together one of these times, seems like you have great ideas for adventure. Besides, eu gostaria de ter a oportunidade de falar o portugues!

Try not to fall too far behind Tina. If you'll be real nice to her, maybe she'll have mercy on you and let you keep up! The girl is hardcore.
