That old SGW trail mileages map, while generally helpful, is a bit out of date. As I mentioned, they've re-routed the switchbacks over the years.

Harrison copied his mileages from that map, although over the years he has updated his SGW map. My early 90's SGW version's mileages match the old SGW trail mileages map exactly, but my mid 00's map shows several corrections.

Updated mileages are posted on the SGWA website on this pdf of San Gorgonio Wilderness Mileages. The official length is now 8.6 each way, but I'm pretty sure that there have been some trail changes due to storm activity since the pdf was last updated. The mileage is now getting pretty close to 9 each way. Giving it a range, it's between 8.5 and 9 miles each way or between 17 and 18 miles RT.

It doesn't matter if it's 8 or 9 miles long Jim....as long as you do it with this guy !

I'll just keep telling myself its 7.8 then. It will make the hike "longer" if I think its 9. :D
