Doing C2C will be one of those and it is long over due.
When will i get to hike with you again Ze?
Did you say challenging?
Well here's some of the hikes I'm planning for this summer / fall. Not that I've totally solidified the routes since I'm a still a noob outside San Gabriels:
1. Triplet Rocks via Twin Peaks - 'only' 6000 ft gain maybe, but probably hardest rock to reach in San Gabriels, 1/2 off trail.
2. Desert Divide 10 peak hike - Start off Morris Ranch Rd, head up to PCT, start bagging peaks heading north (pine/ pyramid/ palm view/ spitler, apache, anstel, south, red tahquitz, tahquitz, lily rock) down south ridge to car shuttle.
3. San Gorgonio 9+ peak hike - simplest one will have > 8000 and 20 miles, but likely more. I'd like to use all the shortcuts to reduce miles while bagging more peaks, might start from Fish Fork then head down more western trail, which would give at least 12 peaks!
4. San Jacinto 7 peak loop - if starting from top of tram, would be maybe 12 miles, 5000 ft gain. I am also considering combining it with C2C as the total mileage and gain compared to C2C would not be that much more, but not sure about dealing with the class 3 rock on some of them (i.e. Cornell) after 12000 ft gain!
5. Iron Mt from Heaton Flat via Coldwater Canyon, Eagle Mine, Gold Dollar Mine, & San Antonio Ridge. 8000 ft +. This one I'm definitely going to do next time I do Iron. When we get to the saddle, instead of heading straight up, I'm going to descend to Coldwater Canyon and hike up to some old mines. Then climb over to Iron via the hairy parts of San Antonio Ridge (gunsight notch), and down the normal way!
I'd also like to check out the trail between Stanley Miller Mine and Allison Mine, but I don't think many people would be masochistic enough to deal with that brush!
Any sound interesting?
