Memorial Hiking Weekend

Howdy All :-)

I also enjoyed several sips of beer at the San Gorgonio Tavern on Saturday. The weather and company were terrific.

Apparently someone found these balloons on the trail and carried them to the summit to celebrate. I suppose the ranger decided it would be easier to deflate them before packing them out.

I didn't have the legs Monday to do Skyline. Kathryn kindly accompanied me on "Walt's Loop." We went up to Wellman's, down to Saddle Junction,
walked the first 0.6 mile of the trail to Law's camp and then went north back to the trail to Willow Creek. We ran into Ranger Andy who checked our permit -- it's clear he's happy to be in the wilderness. We had lunch by Willow Creek before crossing, then headed up to Hidden Divide and back to the tram.

A wonderful day topped off by cold Flat Tire at the tram bar. The only downside -- it took me over 1 1/2 hours to get back to Riverside due to the holiday traffic returning from the river.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

either the person that found those balloons down a slope off the trail @ about 10400' thought they would have enough helium left to help him up the trail ( probably not ), or that they would have a better chance of getting packed out of the wilderness if taken to the top. and why not leave them tied to the summit box for awhile for a little amusement.

the picture is sad...I got to know those balloons personally.

Balloons

Hey, that's my pic....right? :-)
Stood alone on a mountain top, starin' out at the great divide. I could go east, I could go west. It was all up to me to decide.

Amazing where you find those balloons. Found a mylar "Happy Birthday" one out in Joshua Tree National NP near Quail Mountain in March this year. Strangest was finding a "Congratulations" balloon in Dusy Basin (Sierra Nevada, west of the Palisade Crest) in 1997; how it got there I'll never know.
3 of the 5 voices in my head are telling me to "Go for it!"

Bluerail, your avatar looks very much like it was done by Banksy. Am I right?

Years ago I used to spend a lot of time in JTree, and I came to the conclusion that thats where all the balloons went to die.
