How to Post Messages. How to Post Photos. Rules.

Due to an increase in spammers, I had to install a new anti-spam feature that uses randomly-altered photos of cats and cars. It's unconventional, but it stops all automated spam postings, unlike the simple digit/letter codes used on most web sites. To sign up as a new user, just click "Register" above, agree to the terms of use, then you'll see a page where you enter the username you create, your password, email address, etc. Some of that other stuff you can just leave blank. You'll have to click on all cat photos but none of the car pictures.

Here is an example that is marked correctly:

Several people have asked about posting photos in the forum. This is especially a common question for those who do not have web sites but own a digital camera. After you upload it somewhere, then in your message click on "Img," enter the web address where the image is located, then click "Img" again. Some sites give you automatic code that you can copy and paste, which also links back to them since they are offerring a free service.

Here are some popular sites for hosting images if you don't already have webhosting that allows hotlinking:
http://picasaweb.google.com/ (be sure to use Google's Picasaweb not the inferior Google Plus)
http://www.imagehosting.com/
http://www.flickr.com/
http://www.smugmug.com/ (I've noticed a trend of hikers using Smugmug.)
http://photobucket.com/ (lower quality, but it more or less works)
http://imageshack.us/ (lower quality, but it more or less works)

As far as rules, this board generally has few problems and some of the nicest and most considerate people on the Internet. Most forums say, "be nice." Here it is barely even necessary to say that because people are nice! The main rule specific to this forum is to avoid discussing fragile areas and the locations of rare plants, animal homes, etc. Also, please avoid discussing future illegal acts as I do not wish to be involved with the problems that may result. The last rule is to have fun! :D

Another thing: if you are at least 13 years old, please be sure to answer that question correctly... Otherwise your account will be temporarily inactive until I activate it because I need to receive a permission slip signed by parent/guardian for anyone 12 and under. Some people have been getting this question wrong. :D

What if we come to the anti-spam test and are presented with this picture:

Do we check it?

:D Is that from Burning Man? Did you go?

Unfortunately, as much as I like the cats and cars, this may disappear when I upgrade the board to phpBB3, but this thread can be preserved for humor sake...

Perry, how come when I do this, all I get is a URL enclosed in tags instead of a photo inline? What am I doing wrong?
