According to the Desert Sun there is a lost hiker in Palm Springs and a search has been ordered. Their article can be found here.

According to the KESQ news the hiker's name is Kelvin Jones and he was in the Tahquitz Canyon area (could be a Skyline hiker). They said he had food and water. He used his cell phone to call but lost cell contact. They have called off the rescue this evening and will resume at 6:30 in the morning.

I'm sure any Skyline hikers will be seeing helicopters buzzing about.

I was in PS yesterday (fri) afternoon around 5 pm and saw a helicopter hovering down in the murray canyon area and up near the top of the mountain down that way. It looked like somebody lost something.

I was just curious Hal, do you know if he was a thru-hiker trying to get to town or somebody local ?

I don't know. If a PCT hiker hiked down to PS rather than over to Idyllwild then he'd better give it up now. It's time to go home.

This

suggests not a thruhiker but a planned attempt of PCT to Tahquitz Canyon.[/url]
