"I was honored to hike with Kathryn on her first Skyline. We'll have a belated celebration at Las Consuelas soon. I'll be back out on the trail before the crap of dawn."

Hey Ellen,

I was honored to hike with you too! I guess I am possibly addicted as I plan to see you on Skyline this Saturday. Thanks for offering to celebrate at Las Casuelas! It would be my pleasure to join you. And yea, I can agree that after being in the delightful, cool of night, the emergence of that dreaded sun is pretty "crappy"!

See you soon....

Hi Z,

Hi To All,

I am still tracking the posts and making it to the trail. Like most I have been waiting for the snow to clear and now that it has my next two Saturdays are booked. Weekday mornings I am hitting the base section of the trail with a training pack up to the sign or 2200ft depending on when work needs me to report. Sundays I try to catch the tram and do a 12 - 15 mile loop. Looks like my next chance for a full trip will be the 23rd.

It was nice to run into Ellen at Las Cas. I had hiked earlier that morning with my daughter. No one in the family is interested in the death march style hikes and Murray Peak (2200ft) is the adventure they want. I just load the pack with 8-10 liters of water and we all hike at the same pace. Water is great because you just pick a favorite plant at the top and make it happy. No weight to carry down.

I'm sure to see all of you in short order.

Take care and good hiking!

Walt

Walt, maybe you should start geocaching water for money. Just a thought, some of those plants around here don't even like water. carry that stuff a little higher up skyline and you could probably get a decent business going. :D

One of the owners of the company I work for allows me the excuse of coming in late to work as long as I drop a gallon up at 4500ft for him. I figure I'm going that way so why not get the chance to go higher and stay longer!!! Any day on San Jac is better than being in at work.

I can usually start early and still be into work before lunch time. One of the nice things about living and working in Palm Springs.

Skyline Trail Conditions

Welcome back Walt.
For all those doing Skyline this week end, I would recommend being half way up before the sun comes out if you take seven hours or more.
I not sure I can make it, so have a great trip all those that are going.

Thanks for the kind thoughts Tina. i have been having back problems lately.
Four months have passed since I last hiked it to the tram. It seems like an eternity. There is a full moon for anyone that wants to take advantage of it. 8)

Cy is absolutely correct. The humidity level in the mornings has really jump this last week. Expect the temp to be around 74º at 4:00am and be up to 91º by 11:00am. The early am humidity will start out above 30% at 4:00am and slowly fall to around 25% by 9:00am. That's pretty sticky for the desert.

I'll be playing golf and drinking beer hoping you guys are all well.
