Devils slide to tram trail conditions?

Postby katelwiseman » Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:49 pm

We were hoping to do Cactus to Clouds this weekend (5/2). However, the snow conditions to SJ peak seem like more than what my group wants to tackle, so I am looking for an alternative extension to Palms to Pines. We have someone willing to pick us up, so I was contemplating heading over Hidden Divide and along Willow Creek to Devils slide. Does anyone know whether this section of the trail is relatively clear? We'll all be carrying instep crampons but I'm hoping to avoid any dangerous ice patches. The rangers station just didn't seem to have specific info.

Thanks!

Kate,

I was on that trail (tram to Humber Park via Willow Creek) two Saturdays ago and it was in mostly good condition. There were patches of snow that cause me to have to look pretty hard to find the trail, but nothing dangerous. We are planning to do that same route, Skyline - Willow Creek on 5 -2. I expect the trail to be in good condition.

Thanks!

Kevin,

Thanks so much! That is great news. I have done the two pieces separately but never together, so look out for a group of three girls and one guy going "slow and steady" and that'll be us. Say hi if you pass us!

Cheers,
Kate

Kate,

I look forward to seeing you and your group. I too will be slow and steady.
I will be watching today for the advice of the " Skyline veterans" on probable weather and hiking conditions.

Happy Hiking-
Kevin
