Conditions on Cucamonga Peak Trail?

Anyone been up there lately? I'm considering an early start from Icehouse Canyon on Saturday with the GF but she has no experience with axe/pons. Any info on snow/ice levels would be appreciated. Thanks!

From Baldy Ski hut this past sunday morning, it looked like all the north-facing slopes including cucamonga were snow covered. I'd guess that near or at the saddle where you start switching back cucamonga's north flank you'll start getting into considerable snow.

Sorry to post a speculative answer, I'm basing my guess on what I saw out there a few days ago from a distance. This photo shows a lot of the north faces as seen from the baldy bowl ski hut this past sunday.

Hopefully someone else has actually been there and can give a report. You can see there's still a lot of snow.

Just above baldy bowl at 8,300 feet or so, this is what the snow looked like at 3:30am. It was frozen hard enough that we couldn't continue with the footwear we had.

Thanks, looks like my plans will be put on hold for now. Plus it appears there's a small storm coming in as well.
