Looking for ideas for an overnight

Buddy and I are looking for a cool overnight backpack in the Palm Springs area (or Idyllwild or around San Gorgonio). We are good for 8-9 miles one way, ~2500' elev. gain. One hike that looks good is Devil's Slide to Tahquitz, camping in Tahquitz valley.

Is this feasible at this time of year? Any better ideas?
