Bypassing Fuller ridge on PCT

I hear that fuller ridge will be quite icy for some time. My Dad and a friend will be going through the San Jacintos on the PCT in about 8-10 days. They want to have a continous walk but not necessarily follow every step of the PCT. Is walking down Devils slide, through Idyllwild, and up Black mountain road back to the PCT a good alternative?

Wow, sounds like a long haul...Do you not want to take the ridge due to it being icy? I wouldn't think that it would be that icy...Are you not carrying crampons? You would have to loose and gain ALOT more elevation. I think you would be better if you just followed the PCT...besides, you would be missing out on the best part of the San Jacintos.

Aside from knowing how viable the original poster's proposed bypass route is (sorry, I do not know) it would be really helpful if anyone knew what the current conditions are for descending down Fuller Ridge.

Anyone here happen to check it out over the last week or so?
