We went via South Fork Trail. At the Dollar Lake/Dry Lake Junction, go east up the drainage (where the trail marker starts). Snowshoes recommended but not required through the drainage. Veer to the right (SW) around Dry Lake, continue following the drainage up to the chutes, head East to obvious flats called Trail Flat. The ridge we took started on the saddle where the hard right (South Bound) portion starts. Gain the top of that ridge and then move to the Class 2 switchbacks up to the false summit, then 200+ ft in elevation and approximately 3/4 mi to the true summit.

We bypassed the chutes because they looked a little slabby high-up and given the high-wind warnings on Friday night. Wind loaded slabs were a possibility although highly unlikely(not enough loose snow up there to blow around). In retrospect, the conditions of the chutes were fine, but the ridge was just as fun, and probably more interesting.

My thermometer read 10-15F at night, and around the 40-50s during the day, 50 or so on the summit. Get in there while it's good. Snow condition was pretty awesome for 'pooning in the early early hours, a little less desirable around noon plus.

See ya![/img]

I day hiked from vivian creek on Saturday. Weather was perfect. T-shirt on the summit, and shorts on the way down. The snow was just right for glissading from the ridge above high creek down to the camp. took 9.5 hours car to car.

Good job - you're fast (It would have been a 12 hour day for me if I made it all the way to the summit on Saturday) . I'll do a little boot skiing between the ridge and High Creek, but those trees make me a bit hesitant to sit down and get going very fast. My luck I'd crash into a tree if I did.

Norris nice trip report and photos. I am also curious as to the north side. Looking at Alleyehave's photo, which chute did you go up.

Hi, that Google simulation does not depict the North face chutes very faithfully. But if you look at my photos (link above) the shots labelled North Face 005 and North Face 013 show the chute quite clearly. It was the second one from the left.

Not that fast. Ran in to GigaMike on top, he was on his fourth peak and started at the same time. (south fork)

Funny you mention trees.......I hit one one the way down. Not to bad, I was about stopped when I got to it. :D

Yeah - there's always someone faster. I don't think the North Fork would take much longer than Vivian right now if there isn't any post-holing. It's 1,000 less gain and the mileage isn't too bad if you go/down pretty direct from Dry Lake.
