San Jac via Fuller Ridge

New member and I'm ready to do some a overnight trip this coming weekend (4/4/09) and curious about conditions or recommended routes. I'm taking my girlfriend and plan on going up fuller ridge to san jac. camping at deer springs (is there camping there?) or little round valley. I was up there last weekend (3/23) and there was still plenty of snow so I plan on bringing crampons, gps / topo. This will be my first time to the peak. Any info appreciated!

How are you planning to get to Fuller Ridge? To the best of my knowledge, the road to Fuller Ridge Trailhead is closed and probably will be for a couple more months. You probably better check with the San Jacinto Ranger Station on that. Anyone know anything different?

Thanks HH for the info. I actually just did read somewhere else that the road up to fuller ridge would be closed this time of year... This is my first time hiking up the mountain so I'm looking for a good route where I may camp and hopefully make it to the top and fuller seemed like a good option, but maybe I'll save that one for summer since the road to the trail head may be closed. I'm now looking at the one of the other trails where the trail head is more accessible, probably deer springs. If anybody had any info on recent conditions of this trail or other ones, I'd be curious to know because I'm heading off this weekend. I'll be sure and post a trip report after we've done the hike. I'm curious about trail conditions as well (heading up next weekend via Tram/RV/Summit), but I agree with halhiker's assessment. There's a fairly maintained dirt road that takes you +/- 8 miles deep from the main highway. It would definitely be closed/gated through at least April. Great hike though. Four of us did it on 11/1/08 and camped at LRV. Read the trail reviews on localhikes.com, if you haven't already. If you're girlfriend isn't a hiker I'd think twice about bringing her along...

thanks for the advice. it is heeded. i'm looking into the tram route as well as i heard that the west, south hiking routes are steep. saw reviews on localhikes.com and may take the girlfriend on a more mellow on'er to see how it goes. thanks again.

I heard it was closed till mid may...it definitely looks like a nice route, its just hard to access in the winter. Its on my to do list..
