Funny that someone with such a keen moral compass would make such mistakes.

In any case, I'm not excusing my trespassing. If I got caught I would have suffered the consequences of my actions and taken full responsibility.

Yeah, for all those hikers doing the Snow Creek trail at 2am. Get real

Ya turns out carrying that bar was stupid, a bad choice that I made. That's why I put it back.
the frog trail was not a choice though, but a mistake. I believed I was going the right way. The signs were messed up. I did not plan to go that way.
Because I didn't see any frogs and didn't do anything to mess anything up still doesn't make it right for me to have been on that trail. It was wrong.

The difference is that you plan to trespass.

And I don't understand how by trespassing at 2 am makes it any different than trespassing at any other time. Could you explain that? And the part about weather you get caught or not. What difference does that make? Even if you are the only one who knows you trespassed, it's still wrong.

Like I said, trespassing is bad material.
And I'll say it every time I see it.

What bothers me isn't so much the trespassing but posting that one trespassed on public forum, both giving others perhaps the desire to do the same and giving notice to the agency the problem may be bigger than they thought, leading to further closures.

Just take the ridge and stay away from the stream until the chockstone. Don't walk right by the cabin and piss off the caretaker. The intent of law is to keep people away from the water collection areas in lower Snow Creek and Falls Creek. The ridge between, although technically illegal in the letter of the law, is not a big deal to most people (except Fight On). If you drive 72 in a 70 zone, a police officer doesn't really care. If you drive 90 you'll probably get pulled over.

And...people who take the lower canyon regret it. It really sucks to bushwack a 4,000-foot ascent or descent (depending on if you climb up or ski down) through thick vegetation.

So because it sucks to bushwack or its hard to get somewhere makes it ok to trespass? Talk about  !

Should we then advocate cutting switchbacks too? The same reasoning would sound like this. Just cut switchbacks when ever you want because it sucks to walk all the way to the end of them. The idea behind not cutting them is obvious but if you are very careful and try real hard not to mess up stuff then it's ok to do it. Just don't do it where a ranger will get pissed off. Not many really care so what's the big deal

Or how bout this one.
Just make camp fires where ever you want, it sure sucks to have to carry fuel and a stove camping where you could just take a matchbook and use the fuel that's lying all around. And hey if you can't find any there are plenty of trees around, HACK AWAY DUDE! Just do it where the rangers can't see ya! 8)

As much as I believe in civil disobedience, that is a strong term to use. Right now we can still climb the north face, even though the approach is not officially legal. I think it will stay that way as long as people stop bothering Woody by walking right in front of his house. I've heard he has a dog and a shotgun, but he hasn't shot anybody...yet. :D Just kidding, I don't think that rumor is true.

ULBC

Postby FIGHT ON » Mon Mar 23, 2009 6:58 am

Now come on now Perry, Hal. Let's not go there!
I got an idea!
Why limit the trespassing at snow creek.
Think BIG DUDE!

Let's include the switchback cutting and unlimited campfires to the trespassing and form a club! 8)

How does the, """ULTIMATE LAW BREAKERS CLUB""", or ULBC sound?
Man the ULBC sounds nareley mean dude!

ULBC

To join one would simply have to show a law that they continually break.
And of course, and most important, why they "personally" think it's ok.

Let's keep things close to the wilderness areas but ultimately we could break that law too!

Ya never know Perry, there might be a lot more law breakers out there than you and I and Hal ever imagined!

THINK of all the tips and suggestions that will roll in.
WE COULD RECRUIT MILLIONS!

These people need a place to feel comfortable and guiltless. Let's provide that space for them!

NORMALIZING SHOULD BE OUR MOTTO!

I think our goal should be to have as many reasons to break as many laws and greater goods as we can.
I mean after all, we want what we want!, right? AND NO LAW'S GONNA STOP US!

Don't worry Hal, You can be president. I'll step aside.
Frankly I'm surprised you hadn't thought of this already.

(I'll start making t shirts today!)
