Good trip report. Its sounds like there was same tension in the group towards the top. That is a tough situation when 1 member is in better shape and has the energy to make it and 2 are having an off day.

Glad everything worked out OK

C'mon, FIGHT ON! The water district guys have to put a serious face on to keep the place from being overrun like it used to be, but I would bet even they are not concerned about outdoorsmen who respect the land that pass over a small part of their area to be able to get access to the Wilderness.

If you notice, nobody has gotten a ticket for had any real consequence. I think we've got some decent people trying to do their job on one side, and some decent people who are trying to enjoy the Wilderness on the other. It seems like a stalemate with neither side losing. This may be a best case scenario given the alternatives.

Zip? Not you too!? Don't suck into that way of thinking.
I have no phrase for any endeavor which includes plans to break laws, cheat etc. I don't care who does it or how hard it was. A horrible example especially to anyone new to the hiking scene. Might as well include cutting switchbacks while yer at it. I would have more respect for the three stooges if they tried, failed and avoided that zone. I think Perry pointed out a way around. What? it's harder to avoid it? Isn't part of the attraction of this route to the top because it's difficult? That sounds like the real challenge to me. I abhor laziness. I'm sure there are many other reasons people make up to justify. Other than helping someone in need they all are bad. Just go around it.

Wow, have you ever tried doing snow creek this time of year in the dark? I'm guessing you haven't which gives you very little room to speak upon matters which you do not know about.

Was it you I heard about who took a big forest service pry-bar off the mountain. Doubt that was legal.

Have you ever driven your car above the speed limit? Have you ever california-rolled through a stop sign?

Fight On, that was a theoretical idea. Haven't heard of anyone actually crossing Falls Creek Canyon above the boundary. The route is already pushing the limits of most people's physical abilities, and I heard there is a lot of gang activity in the village of West Palm Springs. Your idea of taking the PCT and the other fork might be doable, but nobody has info on that.

Zip, I think you asked whether it's doable for a fit trail runner. Well I practiced on the steepest part of the east face a week ago, and my calves were sore the next day. It's difficult to predict whether a person's calves can sustain the final 5,000 feet (relying on your boot stiffness can hurt). Ice axe and pole takes shoulder and finger strength. But yeah, I think most fit and coordinated people can do it with enough specific training in the previous month. Specificity is the key.

As far as this year, late March and early April is the time window. When it gets warm in May, there are ice caves underneath and rushing water. Later summer and early fall is dry. I've heard different reports on how loose those rocks are.

Yep that was me. I put it back. After enough people on other message boards explained it was for trail maintenance, it made sense.

I've also walked through the frog closed area in Cooper Canyon and took the Rattlesnake Trail. But I did not plan to. It was a mistake. I misread my map and didn't realize it until after I got home.

My point is that you and others know it's trespassing, And you do it anyway and justify it just because you want to do something on the other side of it. And it's not like there is just some sign that says not to. There's a guard stationed there that you have to hide from. Sneak past.

We should be good examples for hikers.
