Last night I was up at the peak, first time in 2 months. The snow was more consolidated than I expected, but soft near the summit, and probably deeper on the north face. That trip report mentioned "extremely soft snow," so they did take some risk doing that. I think the safest way to top out is to stay in the trees on the left side. The tree areas take longer to consolidate, but if you do slip at least there are branches to grab.
