Devil's Slide Trail??

Has anyone been up the Devil's Slide Trail lately? I'm just wondering how much snow is on the trail and how hard packed the trail is. We're looking at going from Humber Park to Tahquitz Peak and down the South Fork Trail on Saturday if we can.

I don't really have any info on the Devil's Slide Trail, but I would imagine that it would be pretty soft...This new storm might change that though. Do you mean the South Ridge Trail? If so, that is closed till mid-April because of maintenance.

What storm? It's clear in the desert! Today it was about 75 here.

Ranger Station says we can drive to about 1 mile from the South Fork Trailhead.

Hey Kathy:

I went up South Ridge about a month ago, it was clear then (lots-o-sunshine).
But the last visit (a few weeks ago) to Saddle Junction measured almost eight feet of
snow.

Going up and over Tahquitz might still be a bit sketchy. The snow on the shaded slopes is still powder (with rime underneath).

The South Ridge road is closed due to logging, it seems more than a mile, but I could be wrong – and easy hike down, nonetheless…

Thanks for the info. We'll have to see how far we can get down the road to South Fork. I've done the ridge out to Tahquitz in March before when there was snow up there, but it sounds like we'll run into more snow on this trip than we did on that one. We can always turn back if we don't like the conditions we find.

The gate to get to the south ridge was lock when I was there a month ago. They are clearing trees and downed wood. Near Tahquitz it was very icy on the north slope. (just before the last big storms)

I ended up just going out to Dry Lake in the SGW instead of doing Tahquitz because I thought the roads would be icy. Well, the roads were not icy and I missed a good hike out to Tahquitz with great snow conditions. Snow was nice and consolidated on the way to Dry Lake too - just glided along on top of the snow - didn't need the snowshoes at all.
