BooHoff to lost canyon

Postby bluerail » Tue Jan 27, 2009 9:08 pm

Another good desert walk. Park in one spot ( LQ cove ), make a loop of the BooHoff and Morrow trails. The Lost canyon side trail is beautiful right now...but then, so is everywhere else in the desert right now.

You took good pictures! I can see why people like walking in the desert. My favorite is the fourth one.

Nice pictures! I was thinking about going up to Lost Canyon tomorrow but don't think I'll have enough time. But looking at your pictures makes me think I'll have to figure out when to get there soon.

Thanks!

Thanks for the pics. I've been adding hikes from the "140 Great Hikes in and near Palm Springs" to my list lately and that's one of them. The next couple of months will be a great time for hiking in the desert.

I drove the drivable portion of Boo Hoff at the beginning of the month. My first time in the area. Didn't really quite know where I was as it was getting dark.
So, I take it that most people just ignore the "Please" on the signs to stay out for bighorn lambing season?

I can't really think of a better place this time of year than the desert. Its perfect anywhere for a day hike or an extended trip .

and as far as those signs go.....I might be dyslexic, I'm always so confused by the dates on those things..... 8)

anyway, I'm usually really quite :D

more photos of local recent hikes. the snake cam one allows me chances to lay down alot while I'm hiking...

I saw one of those signs on the Clara Burgess Trail Saturday. Who put those signs up? There's one on the Skyline Trail too, isn't there? It does look like the dates are not the same on all of them.

I think it's the National Monument.
The fact that the signs say "Please" shows me that they don't have the authority to actually stop anyone.
Which I find somewhat amazing, as the State and USFS like to close off access like nobody's business anytime NRDC or Sierra Club threatens to sue.

I'll have to dig up some of the pictures I took on Boo Hoff.

Another thing is that the "closure" is like Jan-June; pretty much the best time to hike in the desert.

Fish & Game and the Bighorn Institute don't want anyone else sharing their playground. That's what those signs are about.
