Is there enough snow for snowshoes?

I just got some new snowshoes and would like to try them out. I see that some people are calling Long Valley "slushy," which doesn't sound promising.

Is there enough snow to make the trip via the Tram worthwhile this weekend, or should snowshoes be left at home until after the next big storm?

Hi,
last weekend (1/17) you could get around without snowshoes, but they sure helped in certain areas. If you venture anywhere off the hardpacked path, then you easily sank to your knees or more.
Take the snowshoes and give 'em a whirl. what could it hurt?

I was up there yesterday and today. Using the main trail, you indeed could get to Round Valley without snowshoes or crampons but only awkwardly: some icy patches, some sinkholes.

After overnighting in Round Valley I took a different route back to the Tram, and you definitely needed snowshoes on that one--lots of postholing otherwise. Everyone I saw passing through Round Valley campground was on snowshoes--some of them were coming from the peak, others were headed to Tamarack Valley.

This morning the air was perfectly still, there were no clouds, and, once the sun hit, it was almost shirtsleeve weather.

I plan on heading up this weekend with some friends. We plan to snowshoe to Round Valley, set up camp, then head for the summit. It sounds like there's just enough snow left to do this. I've been really worried with all the warm weather we've had lately.

No, there's not "just enough snow." There's plenty of it. Don't worry.
